SPC’s Welcome Center Thrives in Virtual Spaces

February 12, 2021

The St. Philip’s College Student Success Enrollment Management and Advising Team launched its Virtual Welcome Center on January 4, 2021, in response to on-campus visit restrictions due to Covid-19 and in preparation for the Spring 2021 semester. In the month of January, the virtual center delivered one-on-one sessions and provided service to over 4,000 students through the new medium. Enrollment Management team members and Certified Advisors have remained committed to helping students be successful by providing quality service, support and encouragement to each through the remote learning environment.

“The Enrollment Management team members and Certified Advisors continue to remain diligent in providing quality service on a daily basis to ensure our students have their needs met. My team collaborated to develop the best way to imitate services students would have been provided if they were on our college campus through the Virtual Welcome Center. It is through their leadership and dedication that the Virtual Welcome Center was a success. They continue to strive to be innovative in the current circumstances as we know it is imperative to our students to receive an answer to their questions,” said Christina M. Cortez, Dean for Student Success (Enrollment Management and Advising).

The college transitioned over 8,000 students and more than 650 employees to 100% remote delivery in March 2020. Since then, departments across the college have been successful in finding innovative ways to support students. The Welcome Center will continue to deliver its services through the Spring semester virtually.
