Cowboy Breakfast Foundation Donates Towards THCA Scholarships Despite Changes to 2021’s Event

For 42 years, the Cowboy Breakfast has been an event many San Antonians look forward to as the kick-off to the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo season. Event proceeds fund scholarships for students enrolled in the St. Philip’s College Tourism, Hospitality and Culinary Arts (THCA) programs. Traditionally, over 30 THCA students volunteer as early as 2:30 am to prepare thousands of tacos for over 40,000 event attendees.

This year, the Cowboy Breakfast was celebrated in private due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In lieu of the annual event, 700 tacos were delivered to several non-profits in honor of those who serve the San Antonio community. Tacos were delivered to Seton Home, Roy Maas Youth Alternatives and Family Violence Prevention Services. Despite this year’s changes, the Cowboy Breakfast Foundation presented St. Philip’s College with a $5,000 donation earlier this month.

Recognized as exemplary by both the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and the American Culinary Federation, the Tourism, Hospitality, and Culinary Arts programs at St. Philip’s College prepare aspiring hospitality industry professionals for success and service within their industry. THCA students were recently welcomed into the new and recently completed Tourism, Hospitality and Culinary Arts Center of Excellence. The 61,200 square foot, four-story facility features state-of-the-art industry-standard equipment, 898 Café on the first floor, a pastry café on the second, and the crowning jewel on the fourth floor - Artemisia’s Restaurant. Artemisia’s is cantilevered from the north end of the building and wrapped in floor-to-ceiling glass for dramatic views of the downtown San Antonio skyline.
