SPC Redesignated as National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense

St. Philip’s College has been redesignated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (CAE-CD), a program jointly sponsored by the National Security Agency and Department of Homeland Security. 

The goal of the CAE-CD program is to reduce vulnerability in the nation's information infrastructure by promoting higher education and research in cyber defense; and to produce a growing number of professionals with expertise in the discipline, contributing to the advancement of state-of-the-art cyber defense knowledge and practice.

Receiving the CAE-CD redesignation indicates that St. Philip’s College is helping reduce threats to our national infrastructure by promoting higher education and research in cyber defense as well as providing the nation with a pipeline of qualified cybersecurity professionals. 

St. Philip’s College offers five options for students seeking education in information technology. These range from an Associate of Applied Science to a Level 1 certificate and certification preparation. Collectively over 500 students are pursuing a career in information technology, 300 of them specifically in cyber security. 

As a CAE-CD, SPC students will have access to collaboration with industry partners and internships opportunities available only to students from CAE-CD institutions. St. Philip’s College offers internships with local industry leaders such as Cisco, USAA, and IBM. SPC information technology programs have a job placement rate of 87 percent with many students continuing their education at a university level.
